Accreditation Edge

Who is your University Compliance Officer ?

Receiving regulations, notification from the State Education Councils, UGC and host of other regulatory bodies, accreditation and ranking, AISHE etc.? Often these communications are addressed to the VCs who assign these to the Registrars or Dir IQACs for compliance. Sometimes, VCs are at loss to understand who would be the right person. A pushover Registrar will kick the ball to the Dean (A) or Dir IQAC or Nodal Officer. Sometimes, Dir IQAC or Dean (A) would accept it but burry the head in sand and wait for the crisis to erupt with full force like, name of university appearing in the UGC’s portal in the defaulters’s list etc. If there is no person with specific ownership and accountability and protocol duly set, you would continue to move from one crisis to another. Here is another interesting twist to it. A few Registrars won’t simply recommend to their VCs a very critical compliance issue for inclusion in the AC or BOM Committee Agenda simple b’cause they themselves had lacked clarity on how to implement and have a resolution passed in the meeting. I suggest, instead of not doing a compliance, it is better to seek clarity from your university’s mentor but don’t abandon it altogether.

Given the importance of compliances, and these being in plenty, a Dy Registrar Academics & Statutory Compliances, maybe appointed in the university and role and responsibilities enshrined in the Ordinance to discharge compliances emanating from the NEP 2020, various regulatory compliances and frameworks as also be a Member Secretary of committee such as Promotion of Equity, Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of sexual harassment, Redressal of Grievances, Internal Complaint Committee, anti ragging committee etc.
